Our most favourite beach destination in Brazil is Fernando de Noronha Island, an hour's flight off the NE coast of Brazil from Recife or Natal. Put simply, with limited numbers permitted each day, it is an island paradise! For a fuller description, click HERE. Having travelled so far, we recommend you COMBINE your vacation here with other fabulous sites in the north. These include the exceptional beaches and coastal views of magical Jericoacoara Beach , the Parnaiba Delta, and colonial São Luis do Maranhão. The other "gem" that should not be missed is an outing to the incredibly beautiful sands and freshwater lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses NP

Our second tip is a superb destination for cuisine, dance and history - Salvador de Bahia - on the east coast between Recife and Rio. For MORE on Salvador see our section on Music & Rhythm by clicking HERE! When in Salvador, we recommend you COMBINE your time here by also visiting (another!) one of the best beaches in Brazil, at Taipu de Fora on the Marau Peninsular. Famed for its beauty, long sandy beaches, huge rollers that surfers love, and clear rocky pools full of colourful fish, it is a special place to visit. Another magic place in Bahia that should not be missed are the startlingly beautiful morros (buttes), caves and freshwater lagoons, that can be enjoyed at the Chapada Diamantina NP, a former diamond mine area.

Our third choice is Rio de Janeiro (of course!). Not only does it boast one of the most famous and beautiful miradors in the World - Corcovado Mountain - but it also has some of the loveliest beaches and fantastic parties! For MORE on Rio see our Music & Rhythm section by clicking HERE! When in Rio, we strongly recommend that visitors also get out of the city and see Brazil's beautiful coastline and historic colonial towns. South of Rio, the unique “Mata Atlantica” (Atlantic rainforest), of which now only 5% remains, offers sightings of rare flora and fauna. For this we recommend you visit the delightful area of Paratay, and consider indulging in a stay on beautiful Ilha Grande, at the outstanding Atlantic Jungle Lodge. For MORE on this click HERE! Or consider the equally special and delightful Pousada Picinguaba, by clicking HERE!

Finally, we highly recommend Florianopolis, a city of two faces with "old world" colonial beauty and modern sophistication! With great malls for shopping, within easy reach lie fabulous beaches (Lagoinha do Leste is one of the best, due to its isolation). Colonial seafront barrios like Santo Antonio de Lisboa offer superb seafood cuisine in exquisite settings, and locals take boat taxis to visit one of many beautiful islands offshore, like Campeche. When here in the south, visitors may like to COMBINE their vacation with a trip further afield, such as aboard the unique Great Brazil Express, offering luxury travel and tours from Rio to Iguacu Falls. A one day trip can also be enjoyed from Curitaba to Paranaguá. Or take a longer break in one of Brazil's luxurious jungle pousadas - at nearby Ponta dos Ganchos, with its "Yes!" island!
